Conflict of Interest Url
Transparency in scholarly publishing
PrimA: Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmu Kesehatan is committed to ensuring that editorial decisions are made fairly, objectively, and independently. A conflict of interest may arise when personal, professional, financial, or other relationships could influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, the conduct, evaluation, or reporting of research.
All authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to disclose relevant conflicts of interest. Disclosure enables the journal to assess potential risks and take appropriate measures to protect the integrity of the publication process.
What Constitutes a Conflict of Interest?
Conflicts may be financial, professional, personal, or institutional.
Responsibilities of Authors
Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial interests that could influence, or be perceived to influence, their research, interpretation of results, or presentation of findings. Relevant funding sources and the role of sponsors in the research should also be stated where applicable.
If no relevant conflict exists, authors should provide a clear declaration stating that they have no conflict of interest to disclose. Any material change or previously omitted information should be communicated to the editorial team as soon as possible.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
Reviewers must disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest before accepting a review assignment. This may include recent collaboration with an author, close personal or professional relationships, direct competition, or other circumstances that could compromise impartiality.
Reviewers who are unable to provide an objective assessment should decline the invitation and inform the editor. They must also protect the confidentiality of the manuscript and avoid using unpublished information for personal or professional advantage.
Responsibilities of Editors
Editors must disclose any conflict that could affect their handling of a submission and must not make editorial decisions where their impartiality may reasonably be questioned.
Where a conflict exists, the editor should recuse themselves from the relevant editorial process and arrange for an independent editor or another appropriately qualified person to handle the manuscript.
How Conflicts Are Managed
When a potential conflict is disclosed or identified, the editorial team assesses its nature and relevance to the manuscript. Depending on the circumstances, appropriate measures may include:
Requesting additional information or a clearer declaration from the relevant party.
Assigning an independent reviewer or editor where necessary.
Taking proportionate action if a significant undisclosed conflict is identified after submission or publication.
Failure to Disclose a Conflict
Failure to disclose a relevant conflict of interest may lead to further editorial inquiry. Depending on the evidence and seriousness of the matter, the journal may request a correction, reconsider a manuscript, issue an expression of concern, or take other appropriate action consistent with its publication ethics policies.
Declaration Examples
When no relevant conflict exists:
“The authors declare that they have no conflicts of interest related to this study.”
When a relevant conflict exists:
“The authors declare the following potential conflicts of interest: [describe the relevant relationship or interest].”
